NAVARASA IN RAMAYANA

 SUBHASHITHANI:485

A sloka from 'Sri Ramakarnaamrutam' very beautifully describes sequences from Ramayana to bringout navarasas in the kavya.

SringAram kShitinandInI viharaNE
vIram dhanur bhanjanE
KAruNyam bali bhOjanE
adbhuta rasam sindhou giri sthApanE
hAsyam shUrpaNakhA mukhE
bhayam aghE beebhatsam anyAmukhe
Roudram RavaNa mardanE
munijanE shAntam vapuH pAtu naH II

May we be protected by the form of Rama one who demonstrates:

Sringara while sporting with Sita ( one who was born from the earth);

Valour in breaking the Siva Dhanush;

Compassion in forgiving Indra’s son who misbehaved with Sita;

Wonder while the ocean was being bridged;

Humour in dealing with Surpanaka;

Fear at the prospect of committing sin;

Disgust at the prospect of looking at other women in their face ;

Striking terror at the time of killing Ravana

Composure in  the company of sages.

SRI KRISHNAYA THUBHYAM NAMAH

Ps: To-day, 4th  november 2021, happens to be Deepavali day and I have great pleasure in wishing all the readers a "very happy and auspicious Deepavali". VNM
