SUBHASHITHANI:188
All the slokas on bhrutyah (servants ) in to-day's blog are from panchatantra - Mitra bhedhah. The 'king' mentioned in the slokas should be understood as men of authority/state.Similarly 'servants' should be understood as all those who report to a higher authority.

Bhrutyairvina svayam raajaa lokaanugrahakaaribhih I
Mayukairiva deeptaamshustejasvyapi na shobhate II Pancha tantra
The king does not shine without servants who pleasantly handle the people , like the lustrous sun shines not without his rays.
Na vinaa paarthivo bhrutyairna bhrutyaah paartivam vinaa I

Teshaam cha vyavahaaro ayam parasparanibandhanah II
The servant cannot be there without the king; the king cannot be there  without the servant. They are both bound to each other in all enterprises.
Kopaprasaadavastooni ye vichinvanti sevakaah I
Aarohanti shanaih paschaaddhunvantamapi paartivam II

Servants who know what objects please or irritate the king, will slowly get the king to favour them, though he might be insulting at present.
Vidhyaavataam mahecchaanaam shipavikramashaalinaam I
Sevaavruttividaam chaiva naashrayah paartivam vinaa II
For learned persons, for men with great ambitions, for those talented in the arts or valour, for those who are adept in services, there is no other shelter than the king.
Kaache manir manau kaachau yeshaam buddhir vikalpate I
Na tesham sannidhau bhrutyo naamamaatrau api tishtati II
A servant will not stay even for namesake in the presence of a master who misconceives gem as glass and glass as gem.
Anabhigyo gunaanaam yon a bhrutyair anugamyate I
Dhaanadyo api kuleeno api kramaayaato api bhoopatih II
A king be he rich, or of a renowned family, or of a great dynasty, if he does not  recognise the good qualities of  servant ,he will lose the services of the servant.
Sthaaneshveva niyoktavyaa bhrutyaa aabharanaana cha I
Na hi chudaamanih paade pravaameeti badyate II
Servants and ornaments should be placed at proper positions. " Choodaaamani" which should be worn on the head cannot be tied to the feet by vain headed master.
Raajaa tushto hi bhrutyaanaam arthamaatram prayacchati I
Te tu sammaana maatrena praanairapyupakurvate II
When the king is pleased, he offers only money to the servants. But the servants when treated  with respect show their gratitude even by offering their own lives.
Yasminkrutyam samaaveshya nirvishankena chetasaa I
Aasyate sevakah sa syaatkalathramiva chaaparam II
If the king can remain with completely relaxed mind after entrusting the work to the servant, then the servant is worth his name and is like another wife to him.
Sevakah swaminam dveshti krupanam parupaaksharam I
Aathmaanam kim san a dveshti sevyaa sevyam na vetti yah II

If the servant hates his master because he is rude and miserly in character, why not he blame himself for not knowing whom one should serve and not serve?
