MITRALABHA-27-GAINING OF FRIENDS

 SUBHASHITHANI:537

यो ध्रुवाणि परित्यज्य अध्रुवाणि निषेवते
ध्रुवाणि तस्य नश्यन्ति अध्रुवं नष्टम् एव हि २००
yo dhruvāṇi parityajya adhruvāṇi niṣevate |
dhruvāṇi tasya naśyanti adhruvaṃ naṣṭam eva hi || 1.200 ||
He who gives up what is imperishable for that which is perishable, loses that which is imperishable; and what is perishable is any way lost.

मित्रं यान्तु सज्जना जनपदैर् लक्ष्मीः समालभ्यतां

mitraṃ yāntu ca sajjanā janapadair lakṣmīḥ samālabhyatāṃ

 bhūpālāḥ paripālayantu vasudhāṃ śaśvat sva-dharme sthitāḥ |
āstāṃ mānasa-tuṣṭaye sukṛtināṃ nītir navoḍheva vaḥ

 kalyāṇaṃ kurutāṃ janasya bhagavāṃś candrārdha-cūḍāmaṇiḥ || 1.201 ||

O, Good men, may you acquire a friend; let all the people be wealthy, let princes protect their kingdom, constantly standing by their duty; May the policies of the statesmen, like a newly wedded wife, be pleasing to your heart; and may, lord Shiva, who has the crescent moon for his crest-jewel, provide auspiciousness to all.

Thus in Hitopadesa, the first chapter, Mitra Labha, comes to an end.

SRI KRISHNAYA THUBHYAM  NAMAH
