SUHRID BHEDA- SEPARATION OF FRIENDS- 3

 SUBHASHITHANI:540

karotu nāma nīti-jño vyavasāyam itas tataḥ |
phalaṃ punas tad eva syād yad vidher manasi sthitam || 2.14 ||

Let a man well-versed in political science exert himself in various ways; the fruit there off will be according to his own destiny.

vismayaḥ sarvathā heyaḥ pratyūhaḥ sarva-karmaṇām |
tasmād vismayam utsṛjya sādhye siddhir vidhīyatām || 2.15 ||

Indecision is the greatest obstacle in all endeavours; therefore, one should reject indecision and obtain success in all objects desired.

nimagnasya payo-rāśau parvatāt patitasya ca |
takṣakeṇāpi daṣṭasya āyur marmāṇi rakṣati || 2.16 ||

One destined to have a long life, will have his vitals well protected even when he is drowning in water, falling from mountain or stung by Takshaka, a deadly poisonous snake.

nākāle mriyate jantur viddhaḥ śara-śatair api |
kuśāgreṇaiva saṃspṛṣṭaḥ prāpta-kālo na jīvati || 2.17 ||

Even if hundred arrows are thrown, if it is not the time, one will not die.

However, if it is time up, he will not live when pierced with a blade of kusa grass.

arakṣitaṃ tiṣṭhati daiva-rakṣitaṃ surakṣitaṃ daiva-hataṃ vinaśyati |
jīvaty anātho 'pi vane visarjitaḥ kṛta-prayatno 'pi gṛhe na jīvati || 2.18 ||

The unprotected survives, protected by the destiny, while the well protected may perish when ill-fated. An orphan abandoned in the forest may survive, whereas one at home, despite of all efforts may not survive.

nābhiṣheko na saṃskāraḥ siṃhasya kriyate mṛgaiḥ |
vikramārjita-rājyasya svayam eva mṛgendratā || 2.19 ||

There is no official coronation ceremony held or any samskar performed to declare that Lion is the king of jungle. He becomes king by his own attributes and heroism.

sevayā dhanam icchadbhiḥ sevakaiḥ paśya yat kṛtam |
svātantryaṃ yac charīrasya mūḍhais tad api hāritam || 2.20 ||

Look at what people do , who want to earn wealth by serving others; those fools have mortgaged their freedom in the process.

śīta-vātātapa-kleśān sahante yān parāśritāḥ |
tad-aṃśenāpi medhāvī tapas taptvā sukhī bhavet || 2.21 ||
A person may face a lot of miseries when he is dependent on others - cold, wind and heat. If he is willing to even withstand a fraction of that discomfort and perform penances, he can be very happy and independent.
We have a beautiful sloka from Vairagya satakam expressing similar sentiment:

। Vairagya satakam
Forgiving out of weakness, giving up comforts of the home out of lack of fulfilment, tolerating the unbearable cold, wind, heat, without fulfilling austerities, thinking of riches day and night with intense energy but not on Shiva's feet; thus have we performed the actions of the ascetic recluse, but devoid of the benefits.)
