करोतु नाम नीति-ज्ञो व्यवसायम् इतस् ततः ।
फलं पुनस् तद् एव स्याद् यद् विधेर् मनसि स्थितम् ॥ १४ ॥
karotu
nāma nīti-jño vyavasāyam itas tataḥ |
phalaṃ punas tad eva syād yad vidher manasi sthitam || 2.14 ||
Let a man well-versed in political
science exert himself in various ways; the fruit there off will be according to
his own destiny.
विस्मयः सर्वथा हेयः प्रत्यूहः सर्व-कर्मणाम् ।
तस्माद् विस्मयम् उत्सृज्य साध्ये सिद्धिर् विधीयताम् ॥ १५ ॥
vismayaḥ
sarvathā heyaḥ pratyūhaḥ sarva-karmaṇām |
tasmād vismayam utsṛjya sādhye siddhir vidhīyatām || 2.15 ||
Indecision is the greatest
obstacle in all endeavours; therefore, one should reject indecision and obtain
success in all objects desired.
निमग्नस्य पयो-राशौ पर्वतात् पतितस्य च ।
तक्षकेणापि दष्टस्य आयुर् मर्माणि रक्षति ॥ १६ ॥
nimagnasya
payo-rāśau parvatāt patitasya ca |
takṣakeṇāpi daṣṭasya āyur marmāṇi rakṣati || 2.16 ||
One destined to have a long
life, will have his vitals well protected even when he is drowning in water,
falling from mountain or stung by Takshaka, a deadly poisonous snake.
नाकाले म्रियते
जन्तुर् विद्धः शर-शतैर् अपि ।
कुशाग्रेणैव संस्पृष्टः प्राप्त-कालो न जीवति ॥ १७ ॥
nākāle mriyate
jantur viddhaḥ śara-śatair api |
kuśāgreṇaiva saṃspṛṣṭaḥ prāpta-kālo na jīvati || 2.17 ||
Even if hundred
arrows are thrown, if it is not the time, one will not die.
However,
if it is time up, he will not live when pierced with a blade of kusa grass.
अरक्षितं तिष्ठति दैव-रक्षितं सुरक्षितं दैव-हतं विनश्यति ।
जीवत्य् अनाथो ऽपि वने विसर्जितः कृत-प्रयत्नो ऽपि गृहे न जीवति ॥ १८ ॥
arakṣitaṃ
tiṣṭhati daiva-rakṣitaṃ surakṣitaṃ daiva-hataṃ vinaśyati |
jīvaty anātho 'pi vane visarjitaḥ kṛta-prayatno 'pi gṛhe na
jīvati ||
2.18 ||
The
unprotected survives, protected by the destiny, while the well protected may
perish when ill-fated. An orphan abandoned in the forest may survive, whereas
one at home, despite of all efforts may not survive.
नाभिषेको न संस्कारः सिंहस्य क्रियते मृगैः ।
विक्रमार्जित-राज्यस्य स्वयम् एव मृगेन्द्रता ॥ १९ ॥
nābhiṣheko
na saṃskāraḥ siṃhasya kriyate mṛgaiḥ |
vikramārjita-rājyasya svayam eva mṛgendratā || 2.19 ||
There
is no official coronation ceremony held or any samskar performed to declare
that Lion is the king of jungle. He becomes king by his own attributes and
heroism.
सेवया धनम् इच्छद्भिः सेवकैः पश्य यत् कृतम् ।
स्वातन्त्र्यं यच् छरीरस्य मूढैस् तद् अपि हारितम् ॥ २० ॥
sevayā
dhanam icchadbhiḥ sevakaiḥ paśya yat kṛtam |
svātantryaṃ yac charīrasya mūḍhais tad api hāritam || 2.20 ||
Look at what people do , who
want to earn wealth by serving others; those fools have mortgaged their freedom
in the process.
तद्-अंशेनापि मेधावी तपस् तप्त्वा सुखी भवेत् ॥ २१ ॥
śīta-vātātapa-kleśān sahante yān parāśritāḥ |
tad-aṃśenāpi medhāvī tapas taptvā sukhī bhavet || 2.21 ||
(क्षान्तम् न क्षमया ग्रहोचितसुखं त्यक्तं न सन्तोषतः
सोढा दुःसहशीतवाततपनक्लेशा न तप्तम् तपः।
ध्यातं वित्तमहर्निशं नियमितप्राणैर्न शम्भोः पदम्
तत्तत्कर्म कृतम्य यदेव मुनिभिस्तैस्तैः फलैर्वचितम् ।। Vairagya satakam
Forgiving out of weakness, giving up comforts of the home out of
lack of fulfilment, tolerating the unbearable cold, wind, heat, without
fulfilling austerities, thinking of riches day and night with intense energy
but not on Shiva's feet; thus have we performed the actions of the ascetic
recluse, but devoid of the benefits.)
