When mankind is thought of as ‘all are born equal’, then servitude will be considered as despicable; but can one be counted as living when one is not even a servant?

There is great difference between horses, elephants; between metals, kinds of wood, stones and garments; and between men, women and water.

A dog rejoices on obtaining a piece of bone destitute of flesh and filthy with few remains of tendons and marrow on it even though it does not satiate his hunger. Whereas the lion leaves a jackal arrived in his proximity and kills the elephant. Each one desires an object in accordance with his inborn nature even if he is undergoing misery.( This and next sloka are from Niti satakam)

A dog wags his tail, crawls at his feet of its master and rolls on the ground displaying its mouth and belly to get food. A majestic elephant looks calmly at its patron and eats only after many persuasive words.

Those who know the essence of life say that life that is lived gloriously, even though for a brief period, and which is invariably attended with wisdom, valour and fame; For even a crow lives long by eating the crumbs thrown at it.

यो नात्मजे गुरौ भृत्य-वर्गे

kiṃ tasya jīvita-phalena manuṣya-loke

kāko 'pi jīvati cirāya baliṃ ca bhuṅkte || 2.44 ||

He who does not directly or indirectly act kindly towards his son, or preceptor, relatives or the needy or the servants, what is the use of his life on this earth? Even a crow lives for long eating the crumbs thrown as offering to it.

Those who do not have the intellect to distinguish between what is good and what is not, who reject the tenets of moral code mentioned in the scriptures, and whose only goal in life is to fill up the belly, what difference is there between an animal and human-animal?
