When One feels satisfied
with meagre wealth, fate thinks that ‘enough has been done by me’ and does not
help him to earn more.

Let not a woman bring forth
a son who is dispirited, joyless, without valour and is a source of delight to his
enemies.

One should try to achieve
that which has not yet been achieved, and whatever has been obtained be protected
safely, whatever that is protected should then be increased, and then the
enhanced wealth should be shared with deserving persons.

What is
the use of wealth that is not spent either in charity or on oneself?
What is the use of strength that is not used to control enemies?
What is the use of knowledge of the scriptures if one does not follow
Dharma?
What is
the use of oneself when one has not subdued his senses?

A mere trickle of the tiny
droplets of water can fill the pitcher. In the same way we should gather
knowledge, dharma, and wealth.

Whoever spends his day
without charity to others or enjoying himself, is similar to a black smith’s
bellows, breathing but without life.

Noticing the gradual decrease
of collyrium and the growth of ant-hill, one should spend his time fruitfully in
charity, study of scriptures and productive acts.

What is
too heavy for the strong and what place is too distant for those who put forth
effort? What country is foreign to a man of true learning? Who can be inimical
to one who speaks pleasingly?
