ASSIDUITY AND HARD WORK

SUBHASHITHAM : 052
udyamena hi siddhyanti kāryāṇi na manorathaiḥ|
na hi suptasya siṃhasya praviśanti mukhe mṛgāḥ ||
Only with assiduity and hard-work can goals be realised, not with mere day-dreams ;  Deers do not enter the mouth of a sleeping lion all on their own.
ālasyaṃ hi manuṣyāṇāṃ śarīrastho mahāripuḥ |
nāstyudyamasamo bandhuḥ kṛtvā yaṃ nāvasīdati ||
Lethargy is verily the greatest enemy residing in one's own body; there is no kith or kin comparable to industry, on doing which one does not perish or even repent.
na daivamiti sañcintya tyajedudyogamātmanaḥ |
anudyamena kastailaṃ tilebhyaḥ prāptumarhati ?!
Deciding thus, (that everything is pre-ordained by) Fate, one may never abandon his/her own industry;(After all), who can wish to obtain oil from sesame seeds without putting in any effort?
yojanānāṃ sahasraṃ tu śanairgacchet pipīlikā |
acalanvainateyo:'pi padamekaṃ na gacchati ||
Indeed, an ant may traverse the distance of several thousand miles, walking slowly; but, without moving, even Vainateya cannot advance a step forward!
Yatha hyekena chakrena rathasya na gatir bhavet I Tatha purushakaarena vina daivam na siddhayati II
Just as a chariot cannot move on one wheel, so without manly exertion, mere fate does not succeed.
