गौरवं प्राप्यते
दानात्
न
तु
वित्तस्य
संचयात्
।
स्थितिः उच्चैः पयोदानां पयोधीनां
अधः
स्थितिः
॥
Fame is obtained by charity, not by accumulating wealth. Rain
bearing Clouds( giver of water ) have a
high position whereas the seas ( receiver of water ) have a low
position.
दानं प्रियवाक्सहितम्
ज्ञानं
अगर्वं
क्षमान्वितं
शौर्यं I
वित्तं त्यगनियुक्त्तं
दुर्लभमेतत्
चतुष्टयं
लोके
II
A gift accompanied with sweet words, knowledge without
vanity, courage attended by forbearance, and wealth spent in charity; these
four are rare in the world.
दानोपभोगरहिता दिवसा
यस्य
यान्तिवै
I
स कर्मकार भस्त्रेव
स्वसन्नापि
न
जीवति
II
He who passes his days without charity and enjoyment, does
not live although breathing, like the bellow of a black smith.
ஒத்த தறிவான் உயிர்வாழ்வான் மற்றையான்
செத்தாருள் வைக்கப் படும். Kural -214
One who is aligned to the right ways of the world, only is
considered alive; the others are placed amongst the dead.
दानं भोगो
नाशस्तिस्रोगतयो
भवन्ति
वित्तस्य

ददाति

भुङ्क्ते
तस्य
तृतीया
गतिर्भवति
॥
Daanam bhogo
naashastisrogatayo bhavanti vittasya I
Yo na
dadaati na bhungkte tasya triteeyaa gatirbhavati.I I
Giving to others, enjoying oneself or losing it ; these are
the only three ends of wealth. One who neither gives, nor enjoys, leaves only
the third course for it .
दरिद्राय कृतं
दानं
शून्यलिङ्गस्य
पूजनम्

अनाथप्रेतसंस्कारमश्वमेधसमं
विदु:
||
Know that these are equivalent to the performance of the
Ashvameda Yaagaa – 1.The charity done to person in poverty, 2.The worship done
to an unattended linga and 3.The cremation of the body of an orphan.
