क्षते प्रहारा निपतन्त्य् अभीक्ष्णं
धन-क्षये वर्धति जाठराग्निः ।
आपत्सु वैराणि समुद्भवन्ति
च्छिद्रेष्व् अनर्था बहुली-भवन्ति ॥ १८९ ॥
dhana-kṣaye vardhati jāṭharāgniḥ |
āpatsu vairāṇi samudbhavanti
cchidreṣv anarthā bahulī-bhavanti || 2.189 ||
प्राप्ते भये परित्राणं प्रीति-विश्रम्भ-भाजनं ।
केन रत्नम् इदं सृष्टं मित्रम् इत्य् अक्षर-द्वयं ॥ १९० ॥
prāpte
bhaye paritrāṇaṃ prīti-viśrambha-bhājanaṃ |
kena ratnam idaṃ sṛṣṭaṃ mitram ity akṣara-dvayaṃ || 2.190 ||
By whom is the two letter
gem called mitra is created which provides protection when one is in danger and which
is the rest house of joy and confidence.
व्यसनं प्राप्य यो मोहात् केवलं परिदेवयेत् ।
क्रन्दनं वर्धयत्य् एव तस्यान्तं नाधिगच्छति ॥ १९१ ॥
vyasanaṃ
prāpya yo mohāt kevalaṃ paridevayet |
krandanaṃ vardhayaty eva tasyāntaṃ nādhigacchati || 2.191 ||
When faced with
difficulties if one due to delusion keeps lamenting, lamenting only increases
and he never sees the end of the crisis.
केवलं व्यसनस्योक्तं भेषजं नय-पण्डितैः ।
तस्योच्छेद-समारम्भो विषाद-परिवर्जनं ॥ १९२ ॥
kevalaṃ
vyasanasyoktaṃ bheṣajaṃ naya-paṇḍitaiḥ |
tasyoccheda-samārambho viṣāda-parivarjanaṃ || 2.192 ||
The only solution to
calamities, as mentioned by scholars, is an allout effort to root it out
unaccompanied by dejection.
अतीत-लाभस्य सुरक्षणार्थं
भविष्य-लाभस्य च सङ्गमार्थम् ।
आपत्-प्रपन्नस्य च मोक्षणार्थं
यन् मन्त्र्यतेऽसौ परमो हि मन्त्रः ॥ १९३ ॥
atīta-lābhasya surakṣaṇārthaṃ
bhaviṣya-lābhasya ca saṅgamārtham |
āpat-prapannasya
ca mokṣaṇārthaṃ
yan mantryate'sau paramo hi mantraḥ || 2.193 ||
The plan arrived at after
due deliberation is the best advice, to protect the gains already made, to
improve upon it further in future, and to dispel existing problems.
सिद्धिं वा यदि वासिद्धिं चित्तोत्साहो निवेदयेत् ।
प्रथमं सर्व-जन्तूनां प्राज्ञो वेत्ति न चेतरः ॥ १९४ ॥
siddhiṃ
vā yadi vāsiddhiṃ cittotsāho nivedayet |
prathamaṃ sarva-jantūnāṃ prājño vetti na cetaraḥ || 2.194 ||
Success or failure of an
enterprise is dependent on how enthusiastically one starts his venture; a wise
man knows this not others.
प्राप्तो बन्धनम् अप्य् अयं गुरु-मृगस् तावत् त्वया मे हृतः
सम्प्राप्तः कमठः स चापि नियतं नष्टस् तवादेशतः ।
क्षुत्-क्षामो ऽत्र वने भ्रमामि शिशुकैस् त्यक्तः समं भार्यया
यच् चान्यन् न कृतं कृतान्त कुरुते तच् चापि सह्यं मया ॥ १९५ ॥

bandhanam apy ayaṃ guru-mṛgas tāvat tvayā me hṛtaḥ
samprāptaḥ kamaṭhaḥ sa cāpi niyataṃ naṣṭas
tavādeśataḥ |
kṣut-kṣāmo
'tra vane bhramāmi śiśukais tyaktaḥ samaṃ bhāryayā
yac cānyan na kṛtaṃ kṛtānta kurute tac cāpi
sahyaṃ mayā ||
2.195 ||
Oh god of death! ( Yama),
the deer though caught in to the net was snatched away from me by you; then I caught he turtle, he
also escaped from me due to your blessings; here I wander in the forest,
emaciated by hunger and abandoned by my children and wife! What mischief you
have not done me yet; I am ready for anything.
यो मित्राणि करोत्य् अत्र न कौटिल्येन वर्तते ।
तैः समं न पराभूतिं सम्प्राप्नोति कथञ्चन ॥ १९६ ॥
yo
mitrāṇi karoty atra na kauṭilyena vartate |
taiḥ samaṃ na parābhūtiṃ samprāpnoti kathañcana || 2.196 ||
He, who gains friends and
does not act crookedly with them, does not, under any circumstances suffer the
pain of humiliation.
Thus concludes"Mitra samprapti" the second book of Pancha tantra.
