SUBHASHITHANI:417
How many of us can claim to have darshan of
the Lord at the point when we leave our body? We don’t know. But Jatayu had
that. So, what appeared to be a failure of effort materially is actually a
great success spiritually and the reason for that is remembrance of Krishna.
Ravana, not being with the lotus feet of the Lord, lost everything. Srimad
Bhagavatam verse 3.29.39: ( Srila Prabhu pada )
DURING THE LAST MOMENTS:
मकुटालम्बिमयूरपिञ्च्छमालाः ।
प्रतिभाः सन्तु ममान्तिमप्रयाणे ॥Gopala vimshati 12
Adharahitha chharu vamsa nalaa,
Mukutalambhi mayoora pincha mala,
Hari neelashila vibhanga leela,
Prathibhasanthu mamanthima prayane., 12
I should be able to see Him,
With flute kept close to his lips,
With blue peacock feather adorning his hair,
And with his pranks shining like the blue gem,
During the last procession of my life. -Sri Vedanta Desika

O
Lord, killer of the demon Naraka! Let me reside either in the realm of the
demigods, in the world of human beings, or in hell, as You please. I pray only
that at the point of death I may remember Your two lotus feet, whose beauty
defies that of the lotus growing in the Sarat season

Krishna, within your feet which are like lotus stems,
How can my mind which is like a royal swan enter?
When the soul is ready to depart,
And when bile air and phlegm, choke my throat,
How will I ever remember your holy name?-Kulasekara alwar
य: प्रयाति त्यजन्देहं स याति परमां गतिम् ||BG 8.13||
yaḥ prayāti tyajan dehaṁ sa yāti paramāṁ gatim
One who departs from the body while remembering Me, the Supreme Personality, and chanting the syllable Om, will attain the supreme goal.
Paschaadyaami Mahaastrasto naama shravana lobhatah,
Shiveti mantramucchharya praanamstyajati yo narah/

Shivam kalyaana vachanam kalyaanam kalyaanam Muktivaachikam/
If somebody recites Maha Deva, Maha Deva and Maha Deva, I am tempted to be behind him and follow him; if somebody takes Shiva's name at the time of his death, that person would be freed from the sins committed by his/her previous crores of lives and most certainly secure Moksha. The word Shiva stands for Kalyana or Propitiousness and the word Kalyana denotes Mukti. Also the letter Shi stood for Paapa naashan and Va for Moksha-
देहि मे कृपया शम्भो त्वयि भक्तिं अचन्चलं ॥

Requesting Lord Shiva to kindly grant three wishes: To give a peaceful death without any bodily troubles, a life without any trouble for the basic needs, total bhakti to lord Shiva.
