SUBHASHITHANI:445
ये हितं वाक्यम् उत्सृज्य विपरीतोपसेविनः ॥ १९७ ॥
mitra-rūpā
hi ripavaḥ sambhāvyante vicakṣaṇaiḥ |
ye hitaṃ vākyam utsṛjya viparītopasevinaḥ || 3.197 ||
Wise men declare him as an
enemy posing as a friend, who speak pleasant words but acts in a contrary way.
अप्राज्ञान् मन्त्रिणः प्राप्य तमः सूर्योदये यथा ॥ १९८ ॥
aprājñān mantriṇaḥ prāpya tamaḥ sūryodaye yathā || 3.198 ||
स्व-जातिं मूषिका प्राप्ता स्वजातिर् दुरतिक्रमा ॥ १९९ ॥
sva-jātiṃ mūṣikā prāptā svajātir duratikramā || 3.199 ||
Were suitors at her feet,

यद्य् अस्य विहितं भोज्यं न तत् तस्य प्रदुष्यति ।
अभक्ष्ये बहु-दोषः स्यात् तस्मात् कार्यो न व्यत्ययः ॥ २०० ॥
yady
asya vihitaṃ bhojyaṃ na tat tasya praduṣyati |
abhakṣye
bahu-doṣaḥ syāt tasmāt kāryo na vyatyayaḥ || 3.200 ||
Who ever eats what is his natural food, eating that will not be construed as an offence; Not eating is beset with many faults, therefore there is no blame on me.

भक्ष्यं यथा द्विजातीनां मद्यपानां यथा हविः ।
अभक्ष्यं भक्ष्यताम् एति तथान्येषाम् अपि द्विज ॥ २०१ ॥
bhakṣyaṃ
yathā dvijātīnāṃ madyapānāṃ yathā haviḥ |
abhakṣyaṃ bhakṣyatām eti tathānyeṣām api dvija ||3.201 ||
Oh sage! What is not to be eaten by one may be regular food to another. What is partaken by brahmins are prohibited for use in the homa kund.

भक्ष्यं भक्ष्यतां श्रेय अभक्ष्यं तु महद् अघम् ।
तत् कथं मां वृथाचार त्वं दण्डयितुम् अर्हसि ॥ २०२ ॥
bhakṣyaṃ
bhakṣyatāṃ śreya abhakṣyaṃ tu mahad agham |
tat kathaṃ māṃ vṛthācāra tvaṃ daṇḍayitum arhasi || 3.202 ||
When it is praise worthy to
eat what is prescribed, and a sin to eat prohibited items, then what sin have I
committed that you want to punish me? ( The kite to the sage)
सुहृन्-मित्रे ह्य् उदासीनो मध्यस्थो द्वेष्य-बन्धुषु ।
साधुष्व् अपि च पापेषु सम-बुद्धिर् विशिष्यते ॥ २०३ ॥
suhṛn-mitre hy udāsīno madhyastho dveṣya-bandhuṣu |
sādhuṣv api ca pāpeṣu sama-buddhir viśiṣyate || 3.203 ||
योगी युञ्जीत सततं सततम् आत्मानं रहसि स्थितः ॥ २०४ ॥
yogī yuñjīta satataṃ satatam ātmānaṃ rahasi sthitaḥ || 3.204 ||
