A girl, if she dislikes a
prospective groom even if he is handsome, if one desires the welfare of the
girl should not proceed with that proposal.

Firstly, I played the fool. The second
fool is the one who had me in his snare. Then the king and his ministers, we
all were fools together.
Disappointed that the king and the other ministers have ignored his sane advise, Raktaksha spoke to his close associates and narrated "the story of the cave that talked "
anāgataṃ yaḥ kurute sa śobhate
sa śocate yo na karoty anāgatam |
vane vasann eva
jarām upāgato
bilasya
vācā na kadāpi hi śrutā ||3.217
||
One who takes proactively
actions before the advent of a problem really shines; he who does not provide
for what is to happen, comes to grief; I have grown up in this very forest but
have never heard a cave talking.
bhaya-santrasta-manasāṃ hasta-pādādikāḥ
kriyāḥ |
pravartante na
vāṇī ca vepathuś cādhiko bhavet ||
3.218 ||
Those whose mind is filled
with fear, their hands and legs refuse to act; speech is drowned, every limb
starts trembling.
na
dīrgha-darśino yasya mantriṇaḥ syur mahīpateḥ |
kramāyātā dhruvaṃ tasya na cirāt syāt parikṣayaḥ || 3.219 ||
If a king’s ministers are
incapable of far-sightedness, it is certain even a king of long standing will
perish very soon.
ye santaṃ nayam utsṛjya sevante pratilomataḥ || 3.220 ||
amitraṃ
kurute mitraṃ mitraṃ dveṣṭi hinasti ca |
śubhaṃ vetty aśubhaṃ pāpaṃ bhadraṃ daiva-hato naraḥ || 3.221 ||
A man, affected by
ill-fate, makes friends with enemy, hates and destroys a sincere friend, considers
good as evil and an evil thing as beneficial.
