अग्नि: शेषं ऋण: शेषं शत्रु: शेषं तथैव च
पुन: पुन: प्रवर्धेत तस्मात् शेषं न कारयेत्

punah pravardhet tasmaat shesham na kaarayet
Fire,
loan and enemy traces, even if they remain in small amount, they grow back
repeatedly, hence finish them without leaving a trace.
இளைதாக முள்மரம் கொல்க களையுநர்
கைகொல்லும் காழ்த்த இடத்து. – KURAL 879
முள்மரத்தை,
அது சிறிய கன்றாக இருக்கும்போதே கிள்ளி எறிவது போல, பகையையும், அது முற்றுவதற்கு முன்பே வீழ்த்திட வேண்டும்.
Destroy the thorn, while tender point
can work thee no offence;
Matured by time, 'twill pierce the
hand that plucks it thence.
सङ्कल्पप्रभवान्कामांस्त्यक्त्वा सर्वानशेषत: |
मनसैवेन्द्रियग्रामं विनियम्य समन्तत: || 24||
saṅkalpa-prabhavān kāmāns tyaktvā
sarvān aśheṣhataḥ
manasaivendriya-grāmaṁ viniyamya
samantataḥ
BG 6.24: Completely renouncing all
desires arising from ( sankalpa) thoughts of the world, one should restrain the
senses from all sides with the mind.
The formative thought lurking in the
mind is ‘Sankalpa’. It is this seed of sankalpa that sprouts and grows in
to the plant of desire. The desire that is like a spark to-day is capable of
developing in to a conflagration tomorrow. It is therefore to be entirely
eliminated with the weapons of discrimination and dispassion. The senses are
safe only when freed from desire. ( Swamy Chidbhavananda )
एकेन शुष्क वृक्षेण दह्यमानेन वह्निना I
दह्यते तद्वनं सर्वं कुपुत्रेण कुलं यथा II
Ekena shushka vrukshena dahyamaanena
vahninaa I Dahyate tadvanam sarvam kuputrena kulam yatha. A barren tree catching fire may result
in the whole forest getting destroyed, just as one bad child spoils the good
name of the whole family.
