Dwa Suparna Sayuja Sakhaya: Parable of two birds .
A
parable of two birds dwelling on the same tree (body), one represents the
mind-aggregate, the other the Consciousness (supreme Brahman).
द्वा सुपर्णा सयुजा सखाया समानं वृक्षं परिषस्वजाते।
तयोरन्य: पिप्पलं स्वाद्वत्त्यनश्नन्नन्यो अभिचाकशीति॥
समाने वृक्षे पुरुषों निमग्नोऽनाशया शोचति मुह्यमान:।
जुष्टं यदा पश्यत्यन्यमीशमस्य महिमानमिति वीतशोक:॥
Dwa Suparna Sayuja Sakhaya Samanam Vriksam Pariswajate
Tayor anyah pippalam swadu atti, anashnan anyo
abhijakashiti. - Mundaka Upanishad 3.1:1
Samane vrikshe purusho nimagno 'nishaya shocati muhyamanah
Jushtam yada pashyati anyam isham asya mahimanam iti
vita-shokah - Mundaka Upanishad 3.1:2
Two birds living together, each the friend of the other,
perch upon the same tree
Of these two, one eats the fruits of the tree, but the other
simply looks on without eating.
Although the two birds are on the same tree, one of them (the ego ) is sunk in ignorance and deluded,grieves his helplessness.
If in some way or other he turns his face to his friend who
is the Lord, at once the suffering bird becomes free of all anxieties.
எண்ணென்ப ஏனை எழுத்தென்ப இவ்விரண்டும்
கண்ணென்ப வாழும் உயிர்க்கு..
The twain that lore of numbers and of letters give
Are eyes, the wise declare, to all on earth that live. Kural-392
द्वाम्भसि निवेष्टव्यौ गले बद्ध्वा दृडं शिलां I
धनवन्तं अदातारं दरिद्रं च अतपस्विनं II Vidura niti
Dvaambasi niveshtavyau gale badhvaa drudam shilam I
Dhanavantam adaataaram dridram cha atapasvinam II
These two are to be drowned in water with massive stone tied
their neck. A rich man who does not give charity and a poor man who does not
practice austerities.
द्वाविमौ कण्टकौ तीक्ष्णौ शरीर परिशोषिणौ I
यस्चाधनः कामयते यश्च कुप्यत् अनीस्वरः II Vidura niti
Dvaavimau kantakau teekshnau shareera pari shoshinau I
Yaschaadhanah kaamayate yascha kuyat aneesvarah II
There are two sharp thorns that tend to wither the body .
The poor man who desires far beyond his means
and one who feels angry at another over whom he is no master.
न्यायागतस्य द्रव्यस्य बोद्धव्यौ द्वातिक्रमौ I
अपात्रे प्रतिपत्तिस्च पात्रे चाप्रतिपादनम् II
These
two are to be known as misapplications of wealth rightly acquired,viz, to give
to the undeserving and not to give to the worthy.
