SUBHASHITHAM:101

All beings are happy to hear pleasant words ;
therefore always
speak sweet words; why should there be any miserliness.

BG 17.15:
Words that do not cause distress, are truthful, inoffensive, and beneficial, as well as the regular recitation of the Vedic scriptures—these are declared as the austerity of speech.

Bracelets
do not adorn a person. Nor do pearl necklaces shining like the moon, or a
cleansing bath; nor anointment of the body, nor flowers, nor decoration for the
hair. It is cultured speech alone which embellishes a man. All other ornaments lose their glitter, only the jewel of speech ever remains the jewel of jewels.
Divaa nireekshya vaktavyam raathrau naiva cha naiva cha I
Samcharanti maha dhurtaa vate vararuchiryataa II
In the day time look around before speaking, in the night
speak never never. Evil forces are all around ,like Vararuchi evesdropping from
the banyan tree.

A pot that is filled completely will
not make any sound. A half filled pot will make a lot of noise. Virtuous
scholars born to good families will not show off their talent. A fool without
any good qualities will however talk a lot.
One becomes a fool by not questioning, but wisdom comes up by
deep thinking. A vessel, not full, makes noise, but not so a full one.

Harsh words (hurting some one with words),
dishonesty, calumny, banter - these are the four sins that can be committed by
speech.- Manu Smriti

Eating only to satiate hunger, copulation only for the sake of progeny, speech only to uphold the truth, such persons would overcome any difficulty on their way.
Truth which is pleasing should be spoken, but unpleasant truth
should be avoided; also, pleasant untruth should not spoken; this is the
eternal truth.
