THE CROW - KAAKAH , VAAYASAH ( काकः,वायसः )

SUBHASHITHAM: 093
Kaaka cheshta bako dhyanam,  Swana nidra tathaiva cha
Alpahari, grihtyaagi,   Vidyarthi panch lakshnam.

The 5 values of student’s life are:
1) Perseverance of a crow,
2) concentration of a swan,
3) light sleeper like a dog,
4) light eater,
5) ready to stay away from home .

Apramattamavisvaasam pancha sikshet cha vaayasaat II
Secret copulation, collecting things and augmenting resources from time to time; be alert and not believing anybody; making enough noise to make all gather around you- These five things are to be learnt from the crow.
Kural-527
The crows do not conceal (their prey), but will call out for others (to share with them) while they eat it; wealth will be with those who show a similar disposition (towards their relatives).

kākaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ pikaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ ko bhedaḥ pikakākayoḥ|
vasantakāle samprāpte kākaḥ kākaḥ pikaḥ pikaḥ||
"The crow is black, so also the cuckoo; what's the difference between the two;
When spring descends, crows and cuckoos are easily distinguished!"
Na vinaa paravaaden ramate durjano janah.
kaakah sarvarasaan bhungte vinaamedhyam na trupyati.

Wicked persons never enjoy talking to others unless they use foul language , just like a crow, which, even after consuming all sorts of juicy food items does not feel satiated until he consumes foul smelling faeces.
Vihaay paurusham yo hi daivamevaavalambate.
Praasaad  singhavattasya moordhni tishthanti vaayasaah.
Whosoever, instead of relying upon his own strength ,efforts and courage for accomplishing a task depends  more on   his destiny , is like the statue of a lion at the entrance of a large mansion  over whose head crows perch .
Gunairuttangataam yaati nocchairaasan samsthitah.
Praasaadshikharaarudhh kaakh kim garudaayate.
A person gets recognition and prominence not because of his occupying a high position but due to his virtues and merit.  Can a crow perched on the dome of a palace be revered like the 'Garuda'  ?
Kavayah kim na pasyanti kim na kurvanti yoshitah I
Madyapaa kim na jalpanti kim na kaadanti vaayasaah II
The poets see beyond the obvious, there is nothing an intelligent person cannot do, there is nothing a drunkard will not blurt out, there is nothing which a crow will not eat.
Naranaam  naapito  dhoortha pakshinaam chaiva vaayasah.I
Chatushpadam shragaalastu  streenaam dhoortaa cha Maalinee.II
 Among men a barber is considered to be very cunning and
similarly among birds a crow is considered to be cunning. Among
the four legged animals a fox is considered to be  very cunning, and
among women the wife of a gardener or a florist is considered to be
cunning.
