INTELLIGENCE- BUDDHI-DHEEH-PRAGYA- ( बुद्धिः-धी: -प्रज्ञा)

SUBHASHITHAM:129

Aham namaami varadaam gyaanadaam tvaam Sarasvateem I
Prayachcha vimalaam buddhim prasannaa bhava sarvadaa II
I bow to you, O Sarasvati who is the giver of boons and giver of knowledge.
Give me untainted wisdom and be pleasant to me at all times .
Buddhih prabhavah tejascha satvamuttaanamevacha
IVyavasaayascha yasyaasti tasya vrutti bhayam kutah II
One who has intelligence , chivalry, poise, power, enthusiasm and willingness to work;
why he has to worry about earning his living ?

What benefit has he derived from his knowledge,
who does not endeavor to keep off pain from another
as much as from himself ?.
Yah pathati likhati pasyati pari pruchchati panditaan upaasrayati I
Tasya divaakarakiranaih nalinee dalam iva vistaaritaa buddhih II
One who reads, writes, sees, enquires, lives in the company of learned men,
his intellect expands like the lotus leaf does because of the rays of the sun.
Yastu sancharate deshaan sevate yastu panditaan I
Tasya vistaaritaa buddhih tailabindu iva ambasi II
If a person travels different countries and serves scholars,
then his intellect will expand just like an oil drop on a watery surface.
Yasya naasti svayam pragyaa shaastrah tasya karoti kim I
Lochanaabhyaam viheenasya darpanah kim karishyasi II
What good is lot of education for a person who has no understanding of his own.

Just like what good is a mirror for a blind man.

Na hi kaschit vijaanaati kim kasya shvo bhavishyati I
Atah shvah karaneeyaani kuryaad adyaiva buddhimaan II
No one knows what will happen to whom tomorrow.
So a wise man should do all of tomorrow's tasks today.
Na devaadandam aadaaya rakshanti pashupaalayavat I

Yam tu rakshitum ichchanti buddhyaa savibhajanti tam II
Lord does not take weapon into his own hand to protect his worshipers.

He simply gives enough intellect to those whom  he wishes to protect.
Ramayanam
Shusrushaa shravanam chaiva grahanam dhaaranam tathaI
Oohapohaa arthavigyaanam tatvagyaanam cha dhee gunaah II
Desire to listen and to listen carefully, to take and to follow,
to speak in favour and to speak  against, knowledge of meanings and
knowledge of elements are eight qualities of the intellect .
