PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

SUBHASHITHANI:114

Varshartham ashtau prayateta maasan nishartham artham divas am yateta I
Vaarddhakya heto vayasaa navena paratra hetoriha janmanaa cha II
One should strive during eight months for the rainy season, during the day time for the night, during youth for the old age, during this life for the life after.

Vidura niti
Divasenaiva tatkuryaat yena raatrau sukham vaset I
Ashta maasena tatkuryaat yena varshaah sukham vaset I
One should take up to that by day where by one could pass the night in happiness.Take to that work during the eight months of the year which will help to pass the rainy season( of four months ) in comfort.
Vidura niti
Poorve vayasi tatkuryaat yena vruddhah sukham vaset I
Yaavat jeevane tatkuryaat yena pretya sukham vaset II
Be engagaged in that work in your earlier part of life (youth ) where by you could pass your old age in happiness.Be engaged in that work all your life here that departing hence you can live in happiness.

One must not hurry or be  indiscriminate while starting something important . If you hurry, it is a recipe for disaster. Success automatically comes to those who patiently plan before starting something. Success is attracted towards such qualities.

If a person rushes through a task without knowing what will be the end result of his efforts, surely he has to suffer just like a person who nurtures a “Kimshuka” or ‘flame of the forest’ tree in the hope of getting a harvest of fruits. ( “Flame of the forest” – does not produce any fruits useful to people, like other fruit bearing trees)

He who ponders to think (and deliberates) when confronted with fear or extreme happiness and who would never react in a hurry will never be sad.
One should foresee the effects of a problem and decide how to react to them well in advance. It is improper to dig a well when the house is on fire.

trtiiye naarjitam punyam caturthe kim karishyasi ||
(When) education is not received in the first part (Brahmacharya), money is not earned in the second stance (Grihastha)., Punya is not earned in the third level (Vaanprastha), (then) what shall one do in the fourth stage(Sanyasa) ?
Ajaraamaravat praajno vidyaamartham cha chintayet I
Griheeta iva kesheshu mrityunaa dharmamaacharet II
One should think of acquiring learning and wealth as if one will never age or die (meaning that one should engage oneself in learning and earning wealth throughout one’s life). One should do dharma as if Death has caught hold of one’s locks of hair (Since death can claim one any moment, one should hasten to do acts of dharma before one dies.)
