TREES- VRUKSHAAS-2 (वृक्षाः)

SUBHASHITHAM:125
Tara to Vali on Sri Rama :
4.15.1 Ramayanam
Nivaasa vrukshah saadhoonaam apannaanaam paraa gatih I
Aarthaanaam samshrayaschaiva yashasaschaika bhaajanam II
'He is like a sheltering tree to the virtuous, an ultimate refuge for the destitutes and a protector of the distressed. He is the sole repository of fame.
 pañcaite devataravo mandāra pārijātaka | santāna kalpavkaśca pusi vā haricandanam II

Trees of paradise: mandāra, pārijāta, santāna, kalpa and hari- chandana
Chanakya Niti
Vipro vrukshastasya  moolam cha Sandhyaa,
Vedah shaakhaa  dharma karmaani patram.
Tasyaanmoolam yatnato rakshneeyam.
Chinne moole naiva shaakhaa na patram.
The Vedic scholar is like a tree; his prayers ( Sandhya ) are the roots, his chanting of the Vedas are the branches, and his religious acts are the leaves. Consequently effort should be made to preserve his roots for if the roots are destroyed there can be no branches or leaves.
The entire world feels afflicted by the hardship inflicted on this protector of the world ( Sri Rama ), as a tree which acquired flowers and fruits is damaged by injury caused to its root. ( Dasarata'saction to send Rama to the forest after training him to be the next king )
 Na durjanah  saadhudashaamupaiti bahuprairapi shikshyamaanah,.I
Aamoolasiktah payasaa ghrutena  na nimbavruksho madhuratvameti.II
 Just like a Neem tree , which ,even if it is watered at its root with
milk and ghee does not acquire sweetness , in the same manner a wicked
person also can not be transformed into a noble person , no matter how
much different methods are adopted to educate him.

Namanti  phalino vrukshaah namanti gunino janaah.
Shushka kaashthasya moorkhashchas nsa namanti kadaachan.
 Fruit bearing trees  laden with fruits bow down with their weight and benefit the people and so also virtuous  persons , who always remain humble and helpful to other On the other hand dry wood (a dried tree) and dull headed and foolish persons never do so and are always rigid.
  Ekenaapi suvrikshena pushpitena sugandhinaa
Vaasitam syaat vanam sarvam suputrena kulam tathaa
Even as a single good tree with fragrant flowers can spread the fragrance in the entire forest, so also the entire family (or clan) shines by a son possessing good qualities.
  Ekena shushka vrikshena dahyamaanena vahninaa
Dahyate hi vanam sarvam kuputrena kulam tathaa
  Even as a single dry tree on fire will destroy the whole forest, so also the entire family (or clan) will be destroyed by a son of evil character or tendencies.
The rivers do not drink their own waters; the trees don’t eat their own fruits. The clouds, indeed, do not eat the crops [they have watered]. The wealth of the good people are for helping others.
SRI KRISHNAYA THUBHYAM NAMAH
